Description |
| Very nice Mino Soshu den katana. Blade is unsigned, having lost its original tang due to shortening. Hamon is a very well done gunome midare done in ko nie deki. There is activity of kinsuji and ashi with yo in places. The hada is a well mixed itame with chikei. The style of the temper at first resembles a Mino sword, but on closer inspection, it has traits of the Soshu den as well. Tobiyaki is seen in places, along with other Naoe Shizu looking traits. Swords of this type were well known for their cutting ability, so it is not uncommon to see a sword such as this with a saidan mei (test cut) on the tang. Usually swords with the gold inlayed test cuts were generally rare as they were from very high up samurai, and to have the gold test done, it was very expensive. Blade is very healthy, and would be very nice with a professional Japanese polish. As for now, it is in WW2 Gunto mountings that are of the higher grade quality, this shows that this sword probably came from a old samurai family. The tang has 3 holes, and from looking at the bottom hole which is probably the original hole, shows that this sword was once very long indeed. |
